Well, folks, here's what happened... I decided to give Wold of Warcraft a try. You see, I've never played an online MMOG and I picked WoW as my first experience, just to see what the attraction is. I started playing about a month ago, during the Xmas slow period. And now I have over five full days of play time -- we're talking 120+ hours of game time. I've never played a game for this long before, and never thought I would. But something about WoW keeps me coming back.
First off, the game doesn't have a story, and I've always been strongly attracted to stroy-driven games, so this has me puzzled. But, I think the thing that keeps me logged in is that I keep finding new areas. I have an explorer personality, and boy does this game feed that part of me.
But I have to admit that during the first 10 levels I was ready to quit because I was fairly confined to a limited area, and wasn't having a lot of fun doing the quests. (I'm playing an Orc warrior.) Then I got a few quests that expanded my territory and I've been having a great time ever since. In fact, I spend a lot of time simply explorer new areas of the world, without questing or killing. I like filling in areas of my map and finding new flight masters, even in areas where I not ready to go to, yet.
So, I'm about 10 minutes away from being a level 32 warrior, but I can't see myself playing too much longer, if only because this game is such a black hole of lost productivity (as the lack of blog updates indicates!).
If you had to name the one single aspect of this game that keeps you coming back, what would it be? As I said, for me it's the aspect of exploration. I'm curious what draws other players, though.
BTW, if anyone wants to say Hi, I'm Kroz on the Mal'ganis server.
